An agile network of life science specialists

Helping entrepreneurs turn their ideas into business success

Unit Life Sciences was founded to address the challenges faced by Life Science company leaders trying to turn their ideas into business success. Our company is comprised of a network of entrepreneurs who are active in the Life Sciences internationally and who have navigated the challenges of running successful businesses in our rapidly evolving field. Our entrepreneurs join as needed by our customers.

Time-tested business principles

We are defined by respect for Life Science company leaders and the contemporary challenges they face in growing their companies. Our industry is characterized by international competition, buyers who engage less and later with sales, a significant expansion of small companies developing exciting new technologies and services, and mature legacy companies seeking higher growth. Efficient and effective commercialization is a common challenge faced by leaders of those companies and Unit Life Sciences seeks to meet that challenge using time-tested business principles.

Efficient commercialization of life science companies

We aim to help our customers commercialize efficiently during significant periods of growth whether that is start-up, scale-up, new product launch, or promoting an acquired asset. We believe that company leaders should be as comfortable commercializing their companies as they were when they made their business case and we work transparently to that end.

Founded by Mike Butler, Ph.D.

Mike has worked in the Life Science service sector for 30 years where he is recognized as a leader in Pharmaceutical, Agro-science, and Foodstuff development, and Environmental Risk Assessment. He started Unit Life Sciences to meet a need he perceived for contemporary commercialization advice. B2B buyer behavior and the nature of high-performance sales representatives have changed, and we can now effectively deploy new inbound marketing tools. Those can be folded tactically into a strategy of customer alignment, branding and investor communication. When managed as a unit, the three elements of commercialization provide a roadmap for efficient differentiation.

Mike is a Board member and advisor to small and large companies on their approach to Life Science commercialization and internal management. Previously, he was CEO of Xceleron, a company providing ultra-sensitive bioanalysis services to pharmaceutical customers. He managed a successful trade-sale exit in 2017. Before that he led a series of mid-sized pharmaceutical and agro-sciences service operations, sales, and marketing organizations for Aptuit, MDS-Pharma Services and Envigo. Earlier in his career, Mike spent six years in the Environmental Risk Assessment business with Enseco and Lockheed Environmental Systems.
